Adult Teletherapy Services

Teletherapy services are offered with secure and PHIA compliant video conferencing.

Appointments are available for teenage and adult patients who have concerns about a lisp, stutter, voice problems, aphasia, dysarthria or other communication difficulties.

Speech & Language Assessment

The presence of a speech or language disorder is determined through:

  • Case history interview (including relevant health/education reports)
  • Clinical observation
  • Standardized testing

The need for treatment is carefully determined with the patient and involved members of their educational and/or health care team.

Language Therapy

Language is the foundation for success in education, career, and the development of meaningful personal relationships.  Goals for language therapy generally include:

  • reducing the severity of language delays or disorders
  • strengthening spoken language and language comprehension skills
  • reducing the frequency and frustration of communication breakdowns
  • teaching effective management and compensatory strategies for chronic disorders

Articulation Therapy

Successful treatment is achievable for lisps, sound errors, and accent reduction.  Speech therapy for sound articulation goals follows a hierarchy of steps.  Treatment starts with correct production at the sound level working towards spontaneous conversation.  Drill exercises are developed and trialed in therapy.  An effective program is developed with short daily exercises in between therapy sessions.

Stuttering Therapy

Stuttering therapy can help teens and adults who stutter learn to change attitudes and behaviours around talking and communication.  Many people develop their own tricks and strategies for preventing stutters from happening, but these are often unreliable.  Treatment can replace ineffective tricks with helpful management strategies that focus on reducing the frequency of stuttering, and decreasing tension or struggle within stuttering moments.  If you find yourself avoiding talking situations or turning down career advancement opportunities because of your stuttering, you may be a good candidate for therapy.

Voice Therapy

Voice therapy can help people with recurring laryngitis, persistent hoarseness, and other concerns. Voice therapy is available for youth and adults who have had a recent otolaryngology exam to rule out any physiological problems that might interfere with voice therapy. Voice therapy is behavioural, and includes treatment sessions, vocal hygiene coaching, and a comprehensive home program to facilitate practice and generalization of healthy vocal use.  Gender affirming voice coaching is available for people who need guidance and instruction to achieve a healthy voice.

Our programs have been helpful for professionals who are required to use their voices more intensely, such as teachers, coaches, call-center employees, lecturers/public speakers etc. If you are unsure about your candidacy for therapy, contact us so we can answer your questions.
